FAMILY Subway Art – Word Art SVG

I have a wall in my living room that has been screaming for a personal touch so I decided to use up one of my canvases that I bought awhile back when Michael’s was having a sale on them. I’ve seen several versions of this sign but none matched exactly what I wanted on mine, so I got busyΒ and createdΒ my own. This file was created from the heart so I hope that you love it just as much as I do.

I designed this to fit on a 16 x 20 canvas so the file is broken down into 2 separate cuts so that I could cut it on my Cricut Explore. Edited to add that I decided to go back in and edit the file so that you have the option of cutting the word “FAMILY” in a different color if you choose, this version ends with V2 in the zip file. The zip also contains a version that can be cut on a 12×12 mat if you don’t happen to have the 24″, it is the file named Family Subway Art SVG Divided.

I adore this so much! I am going to try and make this to hang over my piano, but have never done anything type of vinyl on canvas before. You said you painted the canvas first, with what type of paint? Then you placed the vinyl on it, was it 651? Did you cover the vinyl or canvas with anything after? I do not want to mess this up, it is so wonderful. Thank you. If you would rather e-mail me, my address is Thank you so much! πŸ™‚

    • Teri Brown says:

Hi Johanna! I painted my canvas using the cheap craftsmart acrylics from Michael’s and then a thin layer of clear satin (rust oleum). Then I applied my lettering using 651 vinyl. I do not seal any of my vinyl and have never had an issue with it lifting. Hope this helps!

How can I get this file for Cricut 12×24 mat? I love it!

  6. Glenda Billingsley says:

Did you apply vinyl to the canvas? Or did you paint as a stencil? I’m a newbie obviously. I know I have to paint the canvas before I apply vinyl.

I have uploaded a new zip that has all versions so just download it again and the one that can be cut on the 12Γ—12 mat is included. If you are wanting to cut it to fit on something 12Γ—12 then you would just resize in Design Space.

  10. Sierra says:

May I please get the 12 x12 version? πŸ™‚ I absolutely love this!!

This is so kind of you and a very beautiful piece of art! Thank you… Can I resize this to the 12×12 in Design space myself?

    • Teri Brown says:

Hi Kelly. If you are wanting to cut it to fit on something 12×12 then it can be resized in DS. The version that most people were asking to be sent to them is if you wanted to cut it larger but only have the 12×12 mat to work with.

  12. Dana says:

Could I get the 12″ x 12″ version like Shannon asked for?

      • Teri Brown says:

I will email it to you. The only difference with the version I’ll be sending you is that it is divided into 6 layers so that the finished size can still be made large but cut using a 12″ mat.

Hoping you can help. I keep losing the “lw” from Always on the first line. When I bring it into Design Space3 it changes that to a different color. Even if I put it into SCAL 4 first and resave it, I still loose the “lw”. Any help you can give m would be great.

This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

  38. Peggy says:

Thank you again for this lovely creation. Now to figure out how to do it on my Silhouette. I’ve got a 12 x 24 mat coming today. Which means my design will be 12 x 24, instead of 16 x 20 Not sure how to “divide” the file in half, but I’ll get it………still a newbie, but loving every minute of it. I am so grateful for your design and your willingness to share. Your talent and kindness is truly a blessing for ALL of us.

    • Teri Brown says:

It has been awhile since I’ve used the Silhouette software but if I remember correctly you will need to ungroup the file after you bring it in, it’s already separated into 2 cuts, and then you’ll need to rotate each half so that it will cut vertical instead of horizontal.

  39. Sarah Nicholls says:

This is amazing and beautiful. I’m currently putting together a ‘family wall’ with pictures, sayings and crafty bits. I’d love to add this in. Thank you for sharing xxx

  40. Sue Stratton says:

Thank you so much for this beautiful piece of art. I’ve been looking at it and can’t figure out how you cut it in two sections so it would work in your Cricut. Both of my sons bought homes last week and I’d love to make each of then one of these to hang in their new homes.

    • Teri Brown says:

If you cut it at the size it is to fit on a 16×20 canvas it will turn each half sideways when you go to cut. You’ll need a 24″ mat because each half is roughly 14″ x 9.5″. If you upload the file to Design Space and click the GO button you’ll understand it a bit better. πŸ™‚

  41. I love this Teri!!!!! You did an awesome job. πŸ™‚
